My TOP 10 Firefox Extensions

Tutorial, Webstuff, webware 24 August 2007 | Comments

The one beautiful thing that i love so much about firefox, since i started using it a lot more this year, are the extensions they have. Absolutely fantastic stuff. Below I am going to list out the 10 Firefox extensions that I have used and am using. Which i hope will be just as beneficial to anybody out there.

1. Smart Bookmarks Bar by Remy Juteau

Not enough place on your bookmarks bar ?… Smart Bookmarks Bar extension comes right here by hiding bookmarks names and only showing icons. Just like how you would have on Opera, which i had sorely missed when i shifted to firefox.
Bookmark names will be displayed on mouse over. This feature can be disactivated if you just want icons without the rollover effect. One extensions which i can’t live without is this one

2. Webdeveloper 1.1.4

by Chris Pederick

For those who are webdevelopers, “Web Developer” is highly recommended for you. I don’t think I have yet seen a more powerful and friendly extension for fiddling with web coding other than this. I did try getting a version for my Opera, but still was not as friendly as Firefox Webdeveloper which is also avialable for Flock.

Adds a menu and a toolbar with various web developer tools.

3. FireFTP 0.97.1

by Mime Cuvalo

And of course when one has your own website, you are going to need an ftp program to keep in check with your server. Here on Firefox, we have FireFTP which is just as good as any other ftp program like FileZilla and Ws_FTP both of which i have used. I had issues with FileZilla but not with Wsftp and FireFtp

FireFTP is a free, secure, cross-platform FTP client for Mozilla Firefox which provides easy and intuitive access to FTP servers.

Along with transferring your files quickly and efficiently, FireFTP also includes more advanced features such as: directory comparison, syncing directories while navigating, SSL encryption, search/filtering, integrity checks, remote editing, drag & drop, file hashing, and much more!

4. Tab Mix Plus 0.3.6 by CPU, onemen

Tabs, you can never have to many I’d like to think. With Opera, there is the wonderful thing of duplicating and getting back the tabs that you have closed by accident. So when Firefox had its tabs I was happy, but they just didn’t have the same feature like Opera. Then i found this little baby. Tab Mix Plus Options.

Tab Mix Plus enhances Firefox’s tab browsing capabilities. It includes such features as duplicating tabs, controlling tab focus, tab clicking options, undo closed tabs and windows, plus much more. It also includes a full-featured session manager.

5. Firefox Universal Uploader (fireuploader) 0.3.1

by Rahul Jonna

For those who are facebook, picasa and flicker lovers, I assure that you will like Fire Uploader as an instant uploading program. All your pictures in one shot to those online services for you to share, in one powerful extension. Can’t wait for when they have youtube and blip.tv uploaders or google video too.

As the name says, this firefox extension allows you to upload/download files from any website using a friendly interface. Upload files/photos/videos to Flickr, Picasa, Youtube, Box.net(1GB of free space), Facebook, Webshots and OmniDrive in this version. Next versions would support other websites like Google Videos etc. You can add multiple files to the queue at a time. Extension will take care of uploading them for you.

6. Screengrab! 0.93

by Andy M

It will save what you can see in the window, the entire page, just a selection, a particular frame… basically it saves webpages as images.

You know there are times you wanna just capture that whole page of a site for research or something. And instead you had to printscreen, paste, crop crop and then only u got the full thing. Well then i found Screengrab. It not only takes a pic of the site you are viewing but the entire page as well. highly recommended!

7. BlueOrganizer
by Alex Iskold

Blueorganizer still happens to be a fave of mine, though i don’t use it as much anymore but it is still very handy as a bookmark organiser.

BlueOrganizer is the new smart-browsing technology for Firefox. It automatically recognizes things like books, wine, travel destinations and offers contextual shortcuts between your favorite sites. With BlueOrganizer you can instantly send books to your Amazon Wishlist, find wines with similar taste on Wine.com, lookup maps on Google – all from one simple, personalized menu. Here is how BlueOrganizer lets you Browse Smarter:

Interact with Things: Enjoy rich and real browsing experience! BlueOrganizer turns the web pages and links into everyday things like books, music, wine, restaurants and travel destinations and makes it easier for you to connect to relevant information.

8. IE Tab 1.3.3.20070528

by PCMan (Hong Jen Yee), yuoo2k

IE Tab extension. You know how things are viewed differently on Internet explorer. especially when you just want to make sure that the css is alright and all. IE tab is a great tool for converting just that tab u are viewing a site, into an internet explorer page. It can then revert back to firefox tab with a click of a button. Cool!

9. Statusbar
by Devon Jensen

Have you ever been annoyed by the stupid pop up window whe you download something on firefox. I have! Until i got this extension. Statusbar took away the hassle of seeing another ugly window up on the screen. And instead i saw all my downloads in a loading statusbar format, along with time, speed and where it was going into.

10. FEBE 5.0

by Chuck Baker

And lastly to SAVE all these extensions so you DON’T have to reinstall them one by one… FEBE…Just one word… FEBE! Using this lil thing a ma jiggy you not only back up and save all your extensions but you can also save them so that you can reinstall all your extensions that you love onto another pf that has firefox!

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up — It will actually rebuild your extensions individually into installable .xpi files.
Now you can easily synchronize your office and home browser.

FEBE backs up your extensions, themes, and (optionally) your bookmarks, preferences, passwords, cookies and just about everything else Firefox offers (it can even backup/restore your entire profile).

or if not u can always try this Extension Tracker by Goose to track your extensions.
