I am a bit slow on the blogging part of late. Missed like three days worth of post.. tsk tsk.. bad me. So as some may know the. Me, Min Li, Nick Dorian and Tony were trying out darndest to find a some costume for the party and resorted to going to costumes stores too possibly rent one. Sad to say though that the costumes they had were either not to our liking, were to expensive, or just down right ridiculous.

Ooohhhh me hat.

Anyways, because Min Li and I couldn’t find wings that were suitable enough for what we wanted. We decided to make our own wings. I went searching on a number of sites for some wing tutorials and ideas. Found a number too :) which was a great help and made me all the more gung ho to try and make my own fabulous wings.

This was one video that helped a lot.

On Friday… yeah like one day before the event.. we met up at One U to buy the necessary items to make our own insect wings. hehe.

So what do we have. We needed 16 Gauge wire, pliers, pantyhose or stockings, some ribbon and some paint.

Check it out.. things are looking pretty good and coming into ‘shape’.

wings2

Tada the nearly finished version of the wings. Now because the pantyhose kept on squeezing the wires I had susah payah shaped. Sigh.. I had originally one 4 wings.. but in the end I had shaped and bent another 4 more wings. Meaning each wing you see above is actually 2 pieces of wire each. This was to make it stronger cause unfortunately the wires I had gotten was not sturdy enough.. crap. Turned out alright though in the end :) So instead of being a butterfly… I became a dragonfly.

This is the final look of the wings :) and I’m quite happy with them actually. Caused me to sleep at 8am in the morning though but it was a lot of fun making it. The end result of course is a lot better than the making process for i was just really tired out. Hehehe and I love the flowers in the middle….

The breakdown of the materials I needed are like so:

  • Wire: RM 3.90 – Jusco
  • Plier: RM 14.50 – Jusco
  • Pantyhose for wings: RM 9.90 x 2 – SoxWorld
  • Paint: RM 11.50 x 2 – Stencil Works
  • Crystals: RM9.50 – Stencil Works
  • Flowers: RM15.90 – Lovely Lace
  • Ribbons: RM 6 – Lovely Lace
Roughly all together RM93.. a bit of the ouch. But comparing it with the rental of the wings at the costume store the goes for RM100 deposit and RM 25 – RM35 for a pair of wings. I think mine is more worth it. :)

I just don’t know where to keep it now. More pictures for the actual Nuffnang Wild Live Blogging Party coming up in another post!
