A Higer Rep

The Web, Webstuff, webware 28 June 2008 | Comments

For a while now I have been using Intense Debate to help me manage my comments and also reply back to them faster. I am a very veyr happy user, although it was a bit unstable at the start – in terms of importing and exporting comments. Now I can safely say that the it’s working like a charm. Why do I love it even more is because I get to reply back to my friends via email instead of having to go straight to blog and reply via there.

On Intense Debate there is this little thing at the side of your profile picture icon that will show what is reputation like.

“Commenters on your blog are held accountable by fellow readers with our voting and reputation mechanism”

“Gain authority through a reputation system that follows you”

reputationid

Since they have the reputation/ comment voting (please allow me to be happy and narcissistic for a while :P ) I was quite delighted to see my reputation points go up. Reason being cause I’ve been trying to figure out how to make it go up. Seeing it just at 0p was quite .. well.. sad :S

Came to a point i usually just flick my eyes over from the point system and can’t be bothered with it. Till i actually saw a wonderful green on it and this is what I saw..

aronilrep

To be honest.. i still don’t quite get how it went up.. So if anyone could be so kinds as to explain.. Much obliged ^_^

I am a huge fan of wordpress.. i can't say that it's the best out there but i have seen enough sites to agree that it very well can be. Ah so you are already having your fair share of wordpress comments on IDblog. Good move to test the waters on blogger though. Nothing better than a support team that knows the ins and outs of the customers and clients. As for tumblr.. can't say anything about it since i've never tried it. And lol, I can't say the same on being off the comp since most my life is on it haha minus the times that i'm out for rehearsals. I wouldnt know what i'd do without my comp. LOL i'm a comp addict.
  • aronil
lol no probs on that :) and no i don't think a line like "ID makes you hallucinate " wil be great for your PR...haha
  • Michael Koenig
perhaps that should be our marketing pitch to music fans and the facebook demographic: "ID makes you hallucinate." On second thought, maybe not. The comment is there! Thanks again.

Wordpress was my first choice, but seeing as our IntenseDebate blog is on wordpress I thought I'd dive into blogger to get some experience with that platform. Actually, my real first choice was tumblr, but having blogger experience seemed a bit more valuable considering what I do at IntenseDebate. On a different note, we're getting ready to start alpha testing our new WP ID plugin 2.0 (probably some time after the holiday). This is top secret so I can't spill the beans on the new features publicly yet, but it's going to blow you away. Please email me at michael@Intensedebate.com for more info. Regarding turning off our computers...having a life off of the computer is soooooo necessary for my sanity. There's a definite correlation between my happiness and the quality of my work. The balance of personal life and work is a constant struggle, but without I think we'd all burn down our offices!

lol, i think you are spending too much time on ID to the point you are hallucinating what not to do :P ... but hey the comment is there right?
  • aronil
hahahhaha i heard contacting oneself is pretty good :)
  • Michael Koenig
Oh...duh! I have to moderate it. You'd think I'd have a handle on this by now...

ahhhh so that's how it works. and hhh to how you got your design looking so good :) Ahh why didn't u just try wordpress? I would've that that a number of people would be using it to. I've used Vox before but I found it too slow. Another blogging platform i would bother recommending other than wordpress is I.PH free to use, though u can't cusstomise it as much as wp. As on the life bit. I can understand what you mean by getting of the computer.. I should do that sometime too. I think i spend way too much time on it when I can be doing other thinfs to help my performances :). So no pressure on getting your blog updated haha.
  • Michael Koenig
I hope not. Ah! I'm having issues with IntenseDebate! Who do I contact?!?!
  • aronil
hmmm that's very odd i have no idea where it went.. is there a glitch perhaps? or accidentally deleted?
  • Michael Koenig
speaking of which, where did your comment go? I'm not seeing it on my blog anymore!

In regards to rep pts, they're caculated by the number of comments you make and the number of votes your comments get. Lucky for me I've got access to our awesome designer, Isaac Keyet - the man behind IntenseDebate's design. So he hooked up the custom design. Blogspot is one of our most popular blog platforms, which is one of the reasons I chose it for my blog platform - I wanted to get more acquainted with blogger. Before that I was using <a href="Vox" target="_blank">http://dudeofmusic.vox.com">Vox which just didn't cut it (I was a new blogger at the time and was promoting my old gig at Me.dium, the RockMe. online music festival). My life...well...ha! No just kidding. The time I spend away from IntenseDebate is spent playing music around town. Generally when I get an opportunity to have some personal time I get off the grid...turn off my phone and computer, hence my neglect for my personal blog. I just need to focus my eyes on something other than a computer, ya know? I'll try to get some new posts up soon. Perhaps this weekend. I'm taking some time off and visiting my family for the holiday in Michigan. We'll see...

Hey Michael :) Ahhh so that was the cause of it, can i ask though how the reps are calculated? Your blog was quite a refreshing visit actually. Did you design the template yourself? Also i think yours is probably the only blogspot that i have seen using Intense Debate. Lol, on one hand it's good they are keeping you busy.. on another, makes you wonder where is your life now. :P Yeah do get back in the groove man, will be looking forward to more of your posts.
  • Michael Koenig
I was pleasantly surprised as well. Turns out there was a weird glitch with our reputation points where they were being counted but not being displayed properly. We found the problem and cranked out a fix. On a different note, thanks for giving my personal blog some comment love. I've been completely neglecting it lately - IntenseDebate has me working like a mad man! I hope to get back into the groove soon. Cheers, Michael IntenseDebate
