Blood, swords clashing, doomed romance and two breeds of monsters wage war on one another. I thoroughly enjoyed myself at the Underworld 3: Rise of Lycans moving outing. Nuffnang had another movie collaboration event and just check out this post and the wallpaper I did: read it here. Well thanks to Nuffnang I managed to not only get my two movie ticket passes but also two lovely Underworld 3 shot glasses. woot woots:)

There was a reason they told everyone in the email to come early to collect the tickets. If you notice, the seat numbers stated on mine are row M. Note to everyone never buy seats at row M!!! I sat there with Mister G and man was it uncomfortable. If i had gone to collect my tickets earlier I could’ve maybe gotten a better seat… Now i get what Aaron was trying to tell me earlier on picking up the tickets for me…. ah well. Now i know better  

Collecting tickets was not just the best part. Free stuff is always great but winning free stuff is even better Base on this post, I was very happy to find out while collecting my tickets, that I managed to win two premium shot glasses! How cool. I won 2 Underworld:3 shot glasses. Bring on the Underworld premiums hehe.

Ok it’s nothing that woweee.. but the point is I manage to get them. And hey if anyone ever comes over for tequila I can at least say you want a shot with my Lycans… hehehehee.

Nothing fancy but it’s just cool to have.

 

Of course I had to take one picture with the poster. If I look pale in that picture above with Viktor it’s probably cause I am pale in it. Before taking this shot, I actually wanted to sit on a chair and do some fierce face like Viktors. When you are next to a vamp you gotta look like one too.. granted I shouldn’t have smiled.

 

Here’s a before and after shot of me. First one… normal Aronil followed by pale, ruby lipped and blue eyed Aronil. I just had to.. for fun I can now talk about the movie… heh. When Underworld first came out, it looked fairly interesting for an entertainment movie. A little background and confession on my end. I used to be huge fan of vampires when i was in my teens. I was sick lol. I even bought a huge encyclopedia on vampires.. I don’t know where it’s kept now. Then i decided to grow up. Anyway so being a fan of vampires, I had to watch it. Storyline was the same old thing which is vampires are not on friendly terms with the Werewolves / Lycans. Cause vampires are seen like the more superior monster or whatever. Unerdworld 2: Evolution was just a sequeal to Underworld and it was so so. Having said that I didn’t expect Underworld 3: Rise of Lycans to be any better than the first two movies. I was wrong… I enjoyed it thoroughly. The storyline was pretty good as it know tells you how the war between the two monsters first started. The beginning of any piece of history is probably the best part. Personally I think the third installment was one of the better films from the franchise. Michael Sheen did a good job as the tormented new breed of werewolves who has a romantic love affair with Viktor’s ( Bill Nighy ) daughter Sonja (Rhona Mitra). This was mentioned very briefly in Underworld 1.

I’m all for make up to make a person look weirder or scarier or whatever but I was a tad dissappointed when for the vampires and werewolves transformation scenes – and all i saw was… ahhh blue contacts.. so obvious.

The fight scenes were beautifully edited. There was one part where Sonja and Lucian was fighting with either werewolves or the vampires and all you is almost a very silent sword fight. Great! cause these cretures are meant to have lightning reflexes with fluid movements. Each clash and clang of the sword was more of a swish followed by some very gaya-tistic slow motion move. 

You can also see why they chose Rhona Mitra as she looks like an exact clone of Kate Beckinsale. Don’t you see the resemblance?

What I love about this movie or rather the reason it impressed was firstly, the depth of the two main characters relationship with one another was very well played. It is because of this forbidden bond between the two that you get a bigger understanding as to how and why the war started. Like I said before I’m usually on the side of the vampires (yeah they look way cooler than a drooling werewolf). But with Underworld, you see that the vampires are painted in the bad light, due to their political reasons and elitist attitude. The Lycans here are actually the creatures you will feel pity towards. Which gives even more reason for the audience to feel and see the sheer pain of the tragic love birds. 

Second reason. It makes you want to watch the first two Underworld movies again, just so you get a refresher of the story. Good job on that! I give it two thumbs for it is worth while watching. For those of you he is filmographer for I Am Legend and if watch carefully there is one very specific angle shot that is exactly similar to that of I Am Legend in Underworld 3. See if you can spot it and tell me hehe.
