From the monthly archives: March 2009

I was trying to think how I could make this into a post. Sabah has beautiful scenery here and the one thing that I enjoy the most here are the gorgeous sunsets. The sun sets pretty early here like around 6 something or so, it’ll start to go down. Then night falls around 8 something. It would feel like 10pm at 8pm in Sabah.

A little warning, while i have shots of the sunset, but there is also a fair amount of me with those shots :P

Back to sunsets. I’ve taken a number of shots of sunsets at different areas, so i’m going to try and place them in order.

The first place i took sunset shots was at Sutera Harbour Resort. We were setting up a romantic dinner and the sunset was really giving the mood.

What you see like a train railway over there is the camera track. To be more precise these were taken at the Pacific Sutera, which is the first building of the Sutera Harbour Resort.

My next shots were taken at Jesselton Point. Which is also the place where you can take boats from the mainland, Kota Kinabalu to do some island hopping. Me and the boys go trigger happy here. You could see the sky turn from a nice blue, to orange and finally a shade of lemonade pink just before the sun hid itself from us.

Those different shades are more obvious in the next location.

My favourite sunsets right now are at Waterfront, Kota Kinabalu. That sunset was truly the most beautiful thing ever. I just wanted to bask in the glory of the sun setting. The following three images shows the stages of the sun setting.. hopefully it was in that order :) But i’m very certain that the sky turned pink just before the sun hid itself from us. :)

The first one shows the sky still in at its bluest.

This one shows the sun blazing hot, like a little fireball. Eat that Dragonball lovers :P

And this last one is just as the orange mixed with the clouds to turn a subtle pink. Btw shooting the pink clouds only happens for a little while, if you are shooting with flash. I usually prefer shooting my pictures without flash and just fiddling with the exposure on a camera. However i then learnt in order to also get the front object in sight, best to have some flash. Anyway, the flashes only work with the setting sun for a while. After a few minutes later, the flash will just capture your face and not the beautiful background :( .

This is Waterfront at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. lol Promoting this place like nobody’s business. :P

It was very romantic too, and it didn’t help that the wind was really calm and that whole stretch by the sea had couples walking all over the place… It really made me miss Mister G. :(

The latest sunset is at Labuan, with a view taken from the Beta Apartment.  Staying at the 15th floor at the Beta Apartment has wonderful perks! Giving us a great view of one portion of Labuan. The view stretches out from one end to another.

And this is why its fun playing with the settings on your camera :)

I just love sunsets… don’t you :)

I’m not a huge fan of waking up early. My days of working are a bit odd, where i may end up having a number of free days. Meaning I could be working really hard at early hours from 8am to 6pm or something like only a couple of hours or even just work in a matter of minutes and still get a job done. Whatever the working schedule is. One thing is for certain I like my sleep. I need my sleep. I enjoy the times i get to plonk my tired body onto my wonderfully comfortable dreamland queen size mattress.

Sometimes because I enjoy my bed so much I can end up being a pig and just over sleeping. That can be bad. If I sleep too much first of all my day starts late, my body will get lethargic and my eating times are all off.

My eyes will be shut by the time it reaches 1-2 am. I can’t help that. I’m a naturally late sleeper. Sleeping at 9pm or 10pm is practically non-existent for me. But i can still wake up early cause i know i have to. On a usual day when I’m free and allowed to sleep in late, I’ll probably sleep all the way to 11am or worse 12pm.

However I’ve noticed something since starting to get to work here. I’ve been getting up at earlier hours here in Sabah. Despite me having a late night or when I’m free to sleep in.. I just can’t seem to continue sleeping. I would wake up at 4-5am (cause call time can sometimes be mad and be like 6am) without a problem. Or I’ll be waking up at 9 plus in the morning.

My reasoning for this phenomenon; Sabah may still be a part of Malaysia, but there is still a difference in time for the sunrise and sunsets here. So when the sun looks its hottest at 12pm in KL, it’s brightest and hottest at around 9am. The sky will be pitch black around 9pm in KL, sky is pitch black at 8pm in Sabah. Due to the early sunsets though, I’ve caught a number of pictures with gorgeous skies behind me!

I’ll show one just for taste for now :)

So my conclusion is that if you ever ever want to learn how to wake up earlier in a day. Take a trip to Sabah and I’m quite certain your sleeping time will either go haywired, or you’ll managed to get your body to wake up with the sunlight as your natural alarm clock.

More pictures coming up with the sunsets.

This just in. Reason I’ve been in Sabah for the past week and a half now, is because at the end of March, I had been casted in an independent film entitled “Belukar”.All thanks to Daphne Iking, whom I met at the Astro Nida short courses last year. Daph! I lurveeee you! What is Belukar about? In short Belukar is about a con artist, Eva (Daphne Iking) who is about swindle 100 million ringgit of insurance money from a gangn member she had a working relationship with, TKO (Annuar Chew Kin Wah). While waiting from the bank and insurance company, Eva decides to take a break in Sabah, Labuan. There she meets Nick (Bront Palare) who is actually an insurance investigator sent to hunt down Eva. Their meeting turns sweet and soon they find themselves developing feelings for on another. All the while Eva is being watched by TKO and his gang members – Momok (Ray Redzuan), Gincu (Me!) and Gong (Xavier Fong), to ensure that she does her job. Will their opposing professions combined with the complications of external factors allow them to finally be together?  Watch the movie to find out! Hehehe  You can read more about it here on New Sabah Times The movie is written and directed by Jason Chong. Who is not only an actor himself but also an ex-state taekwando champion. Hehe.. He’s a seriously talented writer and has an interesting way of taking his shots. I’m very fortunate to be under him and given the opportunity to be working on a script that has so much potential. Anyway moving on.. I had arrived in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on the 8th of March Sunday, to be informed that we were to attend a soft launch of the movie. Upon arrival at the Waikiki Apartment, I took a quick snapshot of the scenery outside.

The soft launch was later on in the evening, so we all got sometime to settle down and rest for a bit. It was also my first time meeting the rest of the cast. I was a bit nervous at first, cause i would have to chemistry with the rest of my ‘gang members’.But in the end we all became one big happy family… hehe.

The soft launch was just in front of the Waikiki Apartment.

Me with the ever so funny chatty man who can cook, Mr Bront Palare who plays Nick the insurance investigator.

The dinner served at Tanjung Aru. The french loaf with the salami and cheese topping were so addictive. Looking at it now makes me hungry…*grumble*

This cupcake here was a sin to eat. I tried to resist it, but after people making yummy faces from taking a bite out of it.. I just couldn’t resist. An example of the yummy face, below.

This person making the yummy face.. that’s my director hehe. Jason, he’s a super cool dude and looks like a samurai most of the time =P

And here’s one portion of the family :)

I’m very very late with this post! Last week was crazy. Absolutely crazy. Messy and funny at the same time. I have been staying in my old house for over 24 years and parents have been there for 28 years, give or take la. And finally last Tuesday marked the day that I would be shifting over to a new house… Which is like 5 minutes away from my old house :S. The new house is lovely and on top of that a good friend of mine has also shifted to their new home. So yes March is a month of moving around.  I say that too because. For the whole week I was being shifted around. From different houses in different locations, not mention different beds. Shifting from one place to another is tiring and I feel rather bad cause I was too busy to help my family completely with the shift. But I tried my best in keeping up and bringing things when ever i could. Anyway so it’s been moving around week.  First destination was my old house.  - Monday and Tuesday Second destination was my new house – Tuesday (I’ve moved in to my new home) – Friday Third destination my friend’s new home – Saturday  Fourth destination… SABAH – Sunday…. So officially on the last week of February I had stayed in exactly Four homes :P Sorry no pictures for this post.
I have been awake since 4 am today. And this was all to get on to my flight.  I’m going be away for roughly a month and I’m really excited about it. It’s not for holiday but for work and it’s just crazy cause it was a tad bit last minute. With yet another burst of spontaneity popping again this year, I managed to land myself a ‘working trip’.  Let’s see if you can guess the place.  Sandy beaches - Photo from  naturaldr   Boats Galore - photo by RaquelKato The Hotel and the Harbour   Gorgeous Scuba diving scenes - photo by Bornsea World War II Wreck - Mantanani   Mountain Peaks On top of Mt Kinabalu   Sunsets to make you will make you go wow! -  photo by ManFriday Fiery sunset Historical sites Kundasang War Memorial photo from jeelife Gorgeous sights aren’t they.
