The Crack of Dawn

Just Me 21 March 2009 | Comments

I’m not a huge fan of waking up early. My days of working are a bit odd, where i may end up having a number of free days. Meaning I could be working really hard at early hours from 8am to 6pm or something like only a couple of hours or even just work in a matter of minutes and still get a job done. Whatever the working schedule is. One thing is for certain I like my sleep. I need my sleep. I enjoy the times i get to plonk my tired body onto my wonderfully comfortable dreamland queen size mattress.

Sometimes because I enjoy my bed so much I can end up being a pig and just over sleeping. That can be bad. If I sleep too much first of all my day starts late, my body will get lethargic and my eating times are all off.

My eyes will be shut by the time it reaches 1-2 am. I can’t help that. I’m a naturally late sleeper. Sleeping at 9pm or 10pm is practically non-existent for me. But i can still wake up early cause i know i have to. On a usual day when I’m free and allowed to sleep in late, I’ll probably sleep all the way to 11am or worse 12pm.

However I’ve noticed something since starting to get to work here. I’ve been getting up at earlier hours here in Sabah. Despite me having a late night or when I’m free to sleep in.. I just can’t seem to continue sleeping. I would wake up at 4-5am (cause call time can sometimes be mad and be like 6am) without a problem. Or I’ll be waking up at 9 plus in the morning.

My reasoning for this phenomenon; Sabah may still be a part of Malaysia, but there is still a difference in time for the sunrise and sunsets here. So when the sun looks its hottest at 12pm in KL, it’s brightest and hottest at around 9am. The sky will be pitch black around 9pm in KL, sky is pitch black at 8pm in Sabah. Due to the early sunsets though, I’ve caught a number of pictures with gorgeous skies behind me!

I’ll show one just for taste for now :)

So my conclusion is that if you ever ever want to learn how to wake up earlier in a day. Take a trip to Sabah and I’m quite certain your sleeping time will either go haywired, or you’ll managed to get your body to wake up with the sunlight as your natural alarm clock.

More pictures coming up with the sunsets.

  • On a random note, I read in a science magazine that our sleep cycles are approximately 90 minutes long, so it is good to sleep in intervals of 90 minutes (4.5 hours, 6 hours, 7.5 hours, etc). I'm glad you enjoyed Sabeh.
