Sunsets in Sabah

Holiday, Nature 24 March 2009 | Comments

I was trying to think how I could make this into a post. Sabah has beautiful scenery here and the one thing that I enjoy the most here are the gorgeous sunsets. The sun sets pretty early here like around 6 something or so, it’ll start to go down. Then night falls around 8 something. It would feel like 10pm at 8pm in Sabah.

A little warning, while i have shots of the sunset, but there is also a fair amount of me with those shots :P

Back to sunsets. I’ve taken a number of shots of sunsets at different areas, so i’m going to try and place them in order.

The first place i took sunset shots was at Sutera Harbour Resort. We were setting up a romantic dinner and the sunset was really giving the mood.

What you see like a train railway over there is the camera track. To be more precise these were taken at the Pacific Sutera, which is the first building of the Sutera Harbour Resort.

My next shots were taken at Jesselton Point. Which is also the place where you can take boats from the mainland, Kota Kinabalu to do some island hopping. Me and the boys go trigger happy here. You could see the sky turn from a nice blue, to orange and finally a shade of lemonade pink just before the sun hid itself from us.

Those different shades are more obvious in the next location.

My favourite sunsets right now are at Waterfront, Kota Kinabalu. That sunset was truly the most beautiful thing ever. I just wanted to bask in the glory of the sun setting. The following three images shows the stages of the sun setting.. hopefully it was in that order :) But i’m very certain that the sky turned pink just before the sun hid itself from us. :)

The first one shows the sky still in at its bluest.

This one shows the sun blazing hot, like a little fireball. Eat that Dragonball lovers :P

And this last one is just as the orange mixed with the clouds to turn a subtle pink. Btw shooting the pink clouds only happens for a little while, if you are shooting with flash. I usually prefer shooting my pictures without flash and just fiddling with the exposure on a camera. However i then learnt in order to also get the front object in sight, best to have some flash. Anyway, the flashes only work with the setting sun for a while. After a few minutes later, the flash will just capture your face and not the beautiful background :( .

This is Waterfront at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. lol Promoting this place like nobody’s business. :P

It was very romantic too, and it didn’t help that the wind was really calm and that whole stretch by the sea had couples walking all over the place… It really made me miss Mister G. :(

The latest sunset is at Labuan, with a view taken from the Beta Apartment.  Staying at the 15th floor at the Beta Apartment has wonderful perks! Giving us a great view of one portion of Labuan. The view stretches out from one end to another.

And this is why its fun playing with the settings on your camera :)

I just love sunsets… don’t you :)
