Speaking Without Words
Aaron shared this video with a bunch of us last week. It’s actually a short film called Signs, that speaks about simple communication between people. The concept is a simple and touching effort to show how as individuals we crave for some form of relation with one another.
The short was done by Publicis Mojo and @RadicalMedia. Starring Nick Russell and Kestie Morsaai. Directed by Patrick Hughes and with a beautifully composed soundtrack by DG Music House .
If I’m not mistaken this was originally an add for Schweppes but it was then turned into a 12 minute short. Either way it’s straight to the point and as the viewer you would smirk at certain bits in the film. It has that same magical element like Wall-E, where there is no dialogue between people. Non verbally anyway. Imagine it like as if you are talking to one another on Irc, msn, or Sms. Only difference is that you can actually see what the other person looks like when they reply.
Silly isn’t it. With all the words in the world. All an individuals just need someone to talk, communicate with them. Flowery, overly elaborate words aren’t necessary. But just to connect with someone – that’s important. I don’t want to over analyse something this simple. However when you tihnk about our own generation now. With our urban lifestyle that is fast paced with barely much time to think about the simple things in life… Maybe that’s why a visual like Signs makes us pause for a moment to think about our own sense of belonging in society. Are we alone in our life? Is there anyone special out there for us? What if i find that person but I lose him or her, just because i didn’t jump at the chance… Questions like those.
Here are a few screenshots of Signs.
