Do you love chicken? I DO I DO I DO!

Working out a lot means i need to fuel my body with protein, which is why chicken is pretty much my basic white meat that i consume on a daily basis. Cooking and grilling at home is great. But every once in a while it’s good to switch it up, and especially when i don’t have time and i just want something fast and healthy. I can tell you walking around in Kuala Lumpur, it is very hard to find healthy food.

Which is why i’m delighted there are outlets like Kenny Rogers Roasters (KRR)! Roasted chicken – with less salt, less fat and less calories.. making my tummy and my conscience worry free!

Crumbs at Pavilion

Being a very health conscious person, I’m very picky with my food. Even more so when it comes to desserts, because I do admit to having a sweet tooth. So when I was told I would be trying out Crumbs a new frozen yoghurt kiosk in Pavilion, I didn’t hesitate in saying… yay!!!

I love frozen yoghurt or also famously known as froyo. It is not the most sinful thing in the world, and it’s also great for your tummy especially when you have a bit of ahem issues. Crumbs originated from Hong Kong. A real popular dessert there and it’s also known for it’s cute square scones which come in 3 flavours. The Crumbs in Pavilion is the one and only outlet in Malaysia. Brought down by two people Ronnie and Jamie. Would you believe that they are both solicitors!

Crumbs has 24 toppings for you to choose from. I personally love the Raspberry, Granola and the Strawberries! ooooo nice!

Bala’s Holiday’s Chalet

The thing about me.. is I love being spontaneous and I love going on little mini journeys. The last time I went on a bike ride it was up to Genting, just to have breakfast at Coffee Bean. That was the first time i went on a superbike ride.. and boy was that fun!

This time, me and a couple of friends rode the superbike up all the way to Cameron Highlands just to have scones and tea! Hehe you need some adventures in life every once in a while. It was a 2 hour bike ride up – and that’s just one way.

Before heading up, we made a pit stop at the Capati Stall at Tapah. I’m still getting used to the idea of riding to places for hours.. just to makan.. It boggles my brain.

After a 2 hour bike ride up – which was extremely windy by the way – we finally reached Bala’s Chalet Hotel & Restaurant. I remember passing by this area before but never got the chance to check the place out.Let me just say..I fell in love with the place. This place was once an all girls school.. can you believe it?

Bala’s Chalet is one of the oldest colonial buildings built during the pre-war era and has been preserved in its original structure till today. Opened as a boarding school 1934 for European expatriate children as a branch of the more famous Tanglin school in Singapore, it began with 150 pupils and 22 qualified teachers all recruited from England.

The compound is surrounded by flora and fauna. If your eyes ever needed a rest from the computer this would be the spot to go to. The place is set in a very country English theme.. it reminded me of the time i went to Lake District in the UK.

With my imagination running wild, doesn’t this make you think of Narnia or some fantasy mystical story. Lush greenery with with flowers peeking out from the vines and clay pots that look like hold secrets… Everything looked magical and then suddenly i spotted something that seemed out of place, but it also gave Bala’s Chalet a sense of dangerous mystery. Right in the middle of the compound there was a… umm well.. something they used years ago to torture people. i forgot what it’s called.. but if you know what it is tell it to me in the comments below. ^_^

Here are the ever famous scones and tea at Bala’s Chalet. Walk into the cozy Jim Thompson Tea Room from 2:30pm – 6:00pm and have yourself home baked tea & scones, apple and strawberry pies served with vanilla ice cream, scrumptious chicken pies and varieties of sandwiches. Just look at those big yummy scones.. aii there goes the diet >.<

As you sit in the quiet cool calmness, let your eyes roam at the splendors of nature!

Doesn’t this place also remind you of the book “The Secret Garden”?

Going indoors, here we have the lovely TV room area, which reminds me a lot of the interior of british India. The place has been refurbished but the original Tudor concept is still being preserved so much so that old girls of the school have returned to pleasantly find they could recognize the music room, the dining room…

Bala’s Holiday Chalet has 30 cottage style rooms offering good value for money to travelers. The peace and tranquility combined with the natural surrounding makes it a spot that is just the thing you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Away from the noise and away from work!

I imagine myself as Goldilocks hehhe from the bed time tale Goldilocks and The Three Bears!

Souled Out Ampang

You all know SOULed OUT at Sri Hartamas. The spot where all Manchester United fans would hang out to watch the matches. The place that is the home of a lot of football lovers, beer lovers and FOOD lovers. After 15 years SOULed OUT has finally branched out to another area. This time it’s closer to the heart of KL and it’s smack right in the middle of Jalan Ampang. Talking with the marketing lass, Fanny who was a lovely host to us yesterday night, she mentioned that the Hartamas branch was considered the boy.. while the Ampang.. they aren’t too sure what’s the “gender” yet. hahaha although i think it suits more as a girl. You can say that SOULed OUT now has a sister hehe.

I love the set up.

SOULed OUT Ampang is designed by international designer Ed Poole who upped the ante on the brief for a neighbourhood café. Unique and arresting features are the shadow pillars, majestically greeting patrons at the entrance, bakau poles that line the ceiling, teak butcher blocks as table tops, bar top and the staircase landing.

A pastel palatte of customised chalkboard shelving displays predominates at the main foyer and bar. The use of designer chairs gives the place a casual yet stylish atmosphere.

I really like the bar. i’ve come to realise that i enjoy sitting at high top tables and chairs.. maybe it’s because i’m short, so i get to feel tall with furnitures like this. lol. The bar was a wonderful spot to just chill, i had my laptop there and the lighting is just bright enough to make you feel like as if you are in a study room. Now that sounds cozy.. but when you listen to the retro music being played, it made me imagine myself like i was in one of those movies – where an American guy walks in with a black vest and sits down asking for a bowl of Chilli lol.

The tables, bar top and stairs are made out of butchers block wood. They only cut up the wood when it was brought to the location. The bar top apparently needed 30 people to lift it off the truck and into the room. :O

A very cozy environment, with pictures and jars or macaroni displayed on the wall shelves.

Then Mynn and i decided to play bartender. She made a Classic Mojito a signature drink at Souled Out while i made the other signature drink, the Lychee Martini. Yummmmm.Thank s to bartender Jimmy who taught us how to make our very own cocktails.

Ok lets move on to the food food food! To just get the gastric juices geared up we’ve got salads!

The top one is Nicoise Salad Pan seared tuna, egg, olives, potato, crisp romaine lettuce, artichoke, drizzled with plum dressing. In my hand, Summertime Salad Grilled seafood, orange segments, alfalfa sprouts, drizzled with home made vinaigrette.

Fajitas Flour : tortillas filled with roasted chicken / beef / vegetables, guacamole, jalapeno, salsa, sour cream and cheese.
Tofu Puffs : Soft tofu puffs filled with minced prawns, mushrooms and vegetables, coated with batter and fried

Sake San: Salmon slivers, roe, cherry tomatoes, Japanese mayo, lollo rosso and a hint of wasabi. Fried Beef Noodles: Flat rice noodles in delicious egg gravy with generous serving of beef slices, topped with spring onions and ginger. Sang Har Mein: Wantan noodles with large fresh water prawns, deep fried and doused with egg gravy

Chicken Makanwala: Tikka chicken stewed in spicy onion gravy.
The Ultimate Sheekh Kebab : Minced mutton in Indian seasoning, skewered and grilled in a tandoor oven

Beef Espetada: (for 2 pax) 400g charbroiled ribeye meat skewers marinated with garlic, laurel leaves and rock salt, served with roast vegetables and baked potato, Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese : Classic combination of smoked salmon and cream cheese

Ultimate Club Sandwich : 3 layered croissant filled with beef bacon, chicken ham, fried egg, cheddar cheese, tomato and lettuce.
Chicken Cordon ‘BLURR’: Boneless whole chicken leg wrapped around sausage, cheese and chicken ham with coleslaw and golden fries.
Lamb Shank: Slow cooked to perfection, complemented with home made mashed potato and chunky vegetables

Lava Cake Warm:, moist chocolate cake infused with praline sauce and cashew nuts, topped with vanilla ice cream.

Personalised service is one of the traits that set SOULed OUT apart from the rest. You can tell how cool they are by the cool “title designations” they give to their employees. SOULed OUT is a place engineered for friends and family to foster the spirit of friendship and camaraderie. The vibe i got was one big happy family, which is great to see. Bosphorus at Pavilion

Merhaba or Selam!!

That’s me greeting you in Turkish.. well that’s about all i know, but i do know where you can find the only Turkish restaurant in town. At that is at Pavilion KL! Look out for this very luxurious, posh and elegant restaurant called Bosphorus!

We aim to be Turkey in Malaysia by serving fine examples of Turkish cuisine with authentic ingredients just as dictated in traditional recipes, in a restaurant designed in a style to reflect Turkish hospitality.

As you enter the restaurant, you will notice that on one side of the room there are beautifully woven rugs, which also happen to be for sale. So while you let the food in your tummy digest, let your eyes roam to the lovely artwork around the room.

The Bosphorus captures the essence of Turkish dining with unique dining experiences from the casual to the elegant. A elegant and suave setting, quiet and removed attentive and unobtrusive service, topped a sumptuos Turkish meal used to impress visiting guests or to celebrate with friends and family.

Turkish Tea. As a tea lover, i really really liked it! Strong and just slightly bitter. That’s how i like it! without any sugar.

I’m not a coffee lover, but i did like this Turkish coffee! And according to Turkish tradition, if you tip the cup over, a person will read what your future holds by the coffee residue. Turkish coffee is coffee prepared by boiling finely powdered roast coffee beans in a pot, possibly with sugar, and serving it into a cup, where the dregs settle.

Turkish Cuisine, which in general consists of sauced dishes prepared with cereals, various vegetables and some meat, soups, cold dishes cooked with olive oil, pastry dishes and dishes made from wild vegetation has also produced a series of health foods such as pekmez, yogurt, bulgur etc. Turkish Cuisine, while rich in variety and taste-bud friendly, also contains examples which could provide a source for healthy and balanced diets and vegetarian cuisines.

Starting the meal, we had humus, peda bread and salad.

This is what you call Lavas! Another kind of Turkish bread.

Oktoberfest begins at Brotzeit

O’ Zapft is!

In English, this means “it is tapped!” The ritual of tapping the first Oktoberfest barrel marks the start of the annual Oktoberfest celebration in Munich. My darling sister is over there now, having her first original Oktoberfest.. but that doesn’t mean i can’t have fun as well.

It’s been a while since I’ve been for an event, so what a nice way to start mingling again with the girls. Malaysia’s Hottest Bloggers were invited to Brotzeit for the launch of Oktoberfest on Saturday 17th September 2011.

i just adore the Oktoberfest hat and it matched my dress for that day! simple joys of life ^_^

The ambiance is wonderful and the wall of just beer bottles was a lovely added touch.

Almost simultaneously across the globe, on the same day, Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant in Mid Valley will observe this tradition by having its very own tapping of the first barrel at 7.30pm, a symbolic gesture to turn on its Paulaner Oktoberfest bier tap, making available the much awaited brew. Brotzeit‘s customers will be one of the first to savour this year’s Paulaner Oktoberfestbier on the tap paired perfectly with authentic cuisine prepare by our very own Bavarian Executive Chef, Helmut.

Chef Helmut in his German Trachten summer attire, officiated the launch by doing the tapping honors of this year’s Paulaner Oktoberfestbier!

Oktoberfest traditions date back to the fairy tale wedding of the then Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese in 1810, on October 12^th to be precise, where for the first time the local community were invited. With free flow of beer and abundant food, the celebrations went on for 5 days. So much fun they had, that it was repeated year after year, each year on a grander scale than the last, to what has today become Munich’s famed Oktoberfest – the world’s largest beer festival celebrated universally. Only six Munich breweries are allowed to brew Oktoberfestbier in accordance with the German Purity Law of 1516 and the breweries of Paulaner and Hacker Pschorr are two of the six .

Besides the beer, the party was served with Brotzeit SchnitzelTag specialities including Jagerschnitzel, Reisenschnitzel, Bauern cordon schnitzel varieties.

Riesenschnitzel: A giant breaded escalope of pork served on a wooden board and a side of Katroffelpuree (mashed potatoes) yum yum yummers

From top right to left: Jagerscnitzel (RM38) : grilled escalope of pork with mushroom sauce, Kartoffelhappen: spicy Potato Wedges, Chicken breast with mustard and side of mash potatoes , Cordon bleu: breaded escaloped of pork stuffed with fine leg ham and melted cheese. Absolutely sinful, but they were really good! Check out the menu.

What you see here is an amazing pizza.. that i didn’t get to try because the girls all walloped it up as i was out talking to a friend >.< but that’s ok.. less calories for me But the pizza looks awesome doesn’t it. Ham pizza (Brotzeitflade) – tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, belly bacon, leg ham, green bell peppers, red bell peppers, cocktail onions and mushrooms. The price for this is RM32.

Ok truth be told i was still on my crazy diet, so i was ecstatic when the chef brought out something that could appease my poor stomach and still permitted me to remain a good girl to my diet. A chicken breast platter with a side of salad. Yummm

And to finish the food escapade. We had the Emperor’s Cake! Also known as Kaiserschmarren
and is shredded pancake with rum and raisins served with plum sauce.

ooooo and this is one beer you have to try called the Mango Bir! mmpppphh yummilicious

We found a lighter that looked like a gun, so Mynn and I decided to have some with fun it . in the middle is our dear friend Jason, who also joined in on the beer beer fun.

At Brotzeit, Paulaner Oktoberfestbier will be available on draft from 17^th September 2011 till the last barrel runs dry before the end of October. Die hard Paulaner fans can also take home the seasonal original, Oktoberfest-to-go set comprising of a 1 litre can and an original mass (glass mug) to savour when it is available no more.

So what are you waiting for? Head on down to Midvalley Megamall where Brotzeit is at. The best part on Wednesday there will be a live band who will entertain you as you munch and drink the night away.

Brotzeit will be having a grand Oktoberfest celebration on the 12th and 13th of October 2011, where they will be having the Paulaner Musikanten, a traditional Oompah band flown all the way from Munich to perform live in Brozeit; as well as plenty of games, song, dance, food and of course, beer!

I love trying out new places. And i especially love places that are happening. Now in Kuala Lumpur the city night life really never sleeps till maybe about 3am. There’s a happening place right smack in the middle of the golden triangle. Sandwiched in between 3 shopping malls, namely Pavilion, KL Plaza and is located literally in Fahrenheit88. Readers lemme introduce to you the place to “Eat, Drink and Party!“

Tantalise Your Tastebuds at Taste@6 Swiss-Garden Residences

Taste@6 pronounced as “Taste at 6″ is the brand new trendy restaurant located on the 6th Floor of the Swiss Garden Residences – the epitome of modern living at its finest! Mynn and i had the pleasure of trying out the food at this stylish, contemporary brasserie.
Upon entering Taste@6, you are greeted with a fashionable blend of design – elegance, chic and modern to enhance your culinary journey.

I must say i was surprised at how nice this shot turned out allow me to be perasan for a bit.. hehe

This is the private room. You gotta love the wine cellar and the abstract bird looking art on the wall.

You have a choice or either dining indoors or outdoors. Outside you overlook the magnificent view of the city’s skyline.

Mynn and I just taking a moment to cam whore.

While indoors, i was personally very impressed by the open kitchen concept. Something like the one you see on Gordon Ramsey’s “The F Word”. Also as you survey the room, you will notice that there is one particular wall that is like a min jungle. If you look closely at this fern leafed wall, you will see Pitcher Plants, which i thought to be so cool! Carnivorous plants add such an edgy feel to this elegant environment.

Right moving on to the food. We have our starters.

My drink of the night was a Frosty Lemon Lime.

[Left-Right] Garlic bread and butter, Pumpkin and Orange Soup with chilli oil and Asian garnishes; Mediterranean Seafood Soupwith prawns, squid, mussels and fish in a light tomato broth served with basil pesto and Parmesan cheese.

[Left-Right] Smoked Duck Ceaser Salad with herb crouton and shaved parmesan, Orange, Walnut and Mixed Seed Salad with labne and spiced orange dressing

Main dishes now.

[Left to right] Chargrilled Rib-Eye , Bangers and Mash: chargrilled italian chicken sausages with mash potatoes and onion gravy, Moroccan Lambrack with buttered cabbage and sweet potatoes.

Here have a closer look at my dish, The Rib-eye: grass fed australian rib-eye, cooked to your liking and served with chips, salad and beamaise. The Rib-eye was fantastic! I’m not being biased. I had three different steaks the week before, and this was cooked to perfection. My meat was medium done and it had just the right amount of tenderness. The outer was grilled to a wonderful brown, but the minute you cut into the meat, the inner part was a pretty pink and biting into it was just heavenly! mmpppphh!!

The only pasta on the table.

And to top it off, desserts!!! Absolute sin!! My diet was sooo gone that day!

Craft Brews Rogue Beer Teaser

Craft Brews is a brewhouse and restaurant located right smack in the heart of Mutiara Damansara, where Tesco, the Curve and Ikea is located. When i first heard about the place, it immediately sounded like a real cool place. The logo helped give the good impression to Craft Brews just it’s name specialises in highly crafted beer and also food that will leave you wanting more.

Craft Brews is the only place where you will get to taste Rogue beer. A highly brewed beer and once you’ve gone Rogue you won’t turn back to your normal beers or rather as the professionals would put it – commercialised beer: beer thats brewed for the masses. Crafted beers are limited in numbers and also have seasons, meaning they won’t always be made available.

I had the wonderful pleasure of being invited to try first hand two of the new Rogue beers that Craft Brews was going to bring down from the States.

Here I am with Juniper Pale Ale and Mocha Porter

Juniper Pale Ale has been a winner for the World Beer Championships for the 2010 and 2011.

The Turkey was named the official bird of the Rogue Nation in August 2007. To commemorate the momentous occasion, Rogue Juniper Pale Ale was dedicated to “the turkey in each of us.” Juniper Pale Ale, like all Rogue products preserves water by using more ingredients, contains no chemicals, additives or preservatives and uses Free Range Coastal Water. A saffron colour beer with a smooth malt balance, floral aroma with a dry spicy finish from whole juniper berries.

If you’re not a stout fan like myself, then Mocha Porter, will completely change your mind. 2010 World Beer Awards Gold winner of the 2010 Australian International Beer Awards. A ruddy brown beer that has a bittersweet balance of malt and hops with a light cream finish. Dedicated to the chocolate lover in each of us. Mocha Porter was once known as New Porter, in honor of the town of Newport, Oregon and home of Rogue Ales.

That’s only two of the beers, there are still 6 more to go! I personally can’t wait to try the Chocolate Stout!

I really love the interior of Craft Brews.
