I’m always a fan of anything to do with fitness. I won’t call myself a health freak but i do enjoy a good sweaty session that involves me working out the muscles. Cardio is my friend (as much as it’s boring at times) and weights are NOT I repeat a girls enemy. Sometimes to burn those calories, running on threadmill is really dull. Which is why i enjoy aerobic classes that really give a full body workout. So… i was really excited to find out Celebrity Fitness would be bringing a new class to their already wonderful selection of classes. It is a new dance class called Sh’bam. Makes you wanna say it in a real popping manner… like SHHH’BBAAAMMMMM! Hahaha What is Sh’Bam? SH’BAM™ is the perfect way to shape up and let out your inner star – even if you’re dance challenged. Featuring simple but seriously hot dance moves. In my own words. Sh’Bam is a high intensity dance class…. which would also explain why i enjoyed it so much. i haven’t danced in ages, so just to move again was very liberating! Sh’Bam is brought to you by the LES MILLS™ programs, famous for classes like BodyPump, BodyJam and BodyCombat – cna you tell those are my favourite classes! Set to a soundtrack of chart-topping popular hits, dance music that is heard in the hottest nightclubs around the world, familiar classics remixed and modernized Latin beats, SH’BAM™ is the ultimate fun and sociable way to exercise. Each 45-minute SH’BAM™ class is vibrant, unique and varied – and like all the  a new SH’BAM™ release is produced every three months with new music and choreography. Here’s what went down at the launch. Now for the shots!

Andrew Lee – Magician and Photographer! Thanks for the photos!!

Josiah Mizukami - Actor and model, a well known face in our entertainment circle.

Your RedFM Late Night Love Songs Hosts -  Me with my partner in crime Mynn

After a dance session, the three of us decided to hog the stage for a second…just a second :P

If you’re a fan of dance like myself, and want something different for your cardio session. Then i highly recommend Sh’Bam! Fun, entertaining and you get to learns moves for your favourite tunes. Sadly i don’t have the video of us dancing to it. But do go try it out! Currently it’s only available at Celebrity Fitness in Bangsar Shopping Village II!

Have fun Sh’bamming!

My friend who is a real ‘brother’ was ready to give me a long lecture when he found out that I didn’t know about the Jabbawockeez. I should be ashamed to not know a new hot dance crew that’s all the rage and is America’s Best Dance Crew. They had appeared first on America’s Got Talent before they won the ABDC title.

jabbawockeez-1-d

If you notice, after each performance they would lift their finger to the sky. Reason for it – that is their way of giving a tribute to their 7th dance member. Who unfortunately passed away from an illness just before their start on the show America’s Best Dance Crew. Rest in peace man.

Their steps are sick .. sick sick sick. They are so synchronised it’s not real. You can find out more about them here. But before that just check out how they dance.
Yesterday was the most amazing day ever. Ever ever ever. The first time I got the sms that stated there was a Wade Robson Workshop going on in KL at Celebrity Fitness. I was pretty determined to go and check it out. Of course when you think about it, I first thought that I was going to be doing some class that is just going to be another instructor dancing to Wade Robson choreography. For RM250..that’s believable. But then later on I got word from my friend that it really is Wade Robson who would be teaching the class. In the flesh man!!

So on a very last whim, I decided to join the workshop even though I knew I would probably kill myself cause i would have to rush for call time. Worth every bit of it, I have to say. I had to run all over the place just to go and find an ATM machine to pay Jie who is the person we were to alias for registration. Apparently the company that brought Wade down is Soulful Symphony owned by our Malaysian Idol Finalist Dina.  I arrived at One U Celebrity Fitness about 15 minutes before the workshop started. They gave us a bag of freebies which consisted of an adidas merchandise. There was a free dri-fit shirt, adidas notebook, socks, a celebrity fitness neckchain, two free day passes to celebrity fitness and another freebie for spa.

Going in there Min Li and I went ahead to the locker to change. We could see every girl trying to be creative with the way they tied their shirt. To be either more fitting or shorter at the midriff or whatever. Honestly waste of time, cause in the end it’s all about being more comfortable to do the moves. Pehh. Of course we just had to take pictures in the locker room. That gym has one of the nicest locker rooms around. Very umm classy. Min took the blue while i took the red one.

Warm up session was simple by one of our local dancers. Really sorry but I can’t remember their names. Then Dina came in to intro the man himself Mr Wade Robson!!! Woooooooooooo cheers all over the place… Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo  and then the choreography session began. Wade taught us some bit from a new show that is on in the near future. I forgot what it was but yeah he taught us some moves from there.

Boy were they hard! For me anyway and that is terrible. It made me think ok if I were to go into something into an audition like “So You Think You Can Dance”…I’d probably faint from either exhaustion or possible humiliation. Thank goodness this was not a competition, it was just about learning to have some fun.

waderobson_2

I saw a number of familiar faces in the room. Some I knew personally from a long time ago in my dancing days and some only from the comfort of a tv screen. Those from the Tv screen were a number of contestants from the So You Think You Can Dance Malaysia Season 2. If you look closely at the pic above, there is one of the contestants watching by the foot of the elevated stage.  The whole choreography took was only about 34 seconds, but it took us 1 and a half hours to learn it. Man.. That long for such a short time. By the time we got to like just 16 counts, my shirt was drenched to the core. Like really really wet and just soaking with sweat. Oooh and I have to mention that I don’t think Wade appreciated it everytime we went bickering and making minor noises in the room when we couldn’t get a step or when he did some cool move. Thinking back to the SYTYCD season 3 when he was training Sabra and Lacey, he was hoping they would be quiet long enough so that they could focus. lol.  I would show how i did the choreography but I would die of embarrasment. I’ll show it one day, though. Let me practice it a bit more and let’s see whether I can do it better. Instead I’ll show how Wade did it…hehe Look at his legs move man. This dude has been dancing since he was 2, started being a pro dancer at the age of 12 and then did choreography for others at the age of 14. He didn’t start with professional dancing, but a lot of it came from watching music videos, learning and practicing again and again. Till he got it.  There was a special performance too by the dance crew Floor Fever and they requested for Wade to dance the choreography he did for Justin Timberlake’s ‘Sexyback’. Took him a while to remember but the crew were cool enough to say ‘Don’t worry we’ll help you..” Peeehh Yeah right. Wade Robson just needed to listen for a sec and WA-LA muscle memory kicked in. And then he started dancing. I’ll upload that video later.

waderobson_4

We found out more about the man during the Q&A session. This lasted for about 15 minutes and I was busy being a little miss busybody, but there were just so many questions I wanted to know and ask. On a professional level and just on a level of how he in his own way handle things as a dancer.

waderobson_3

Check out the video here.  After the Q&A session, we were all to line up if we wanted to take a picture with Wade. Hell yeah!! of course I wanna take a picture with Wade. Even if my hair was a mess it’s fine, cause it’s with one of the people I look to for inspiration. Wade was seriously down to earth and he’s amazingly tall. That’s beside the point but I’m just really glad I managed to meet one of the people who inspire people all around the world so much in the realm of dancing.

waderobson_5

And of course I had to take a picture with Dina herself.

waderobson_5_1

It was a seriously too cool and that was a super wonderful experience!!!! And word up for those of you who are in Singapore. Wade Robson is going to be there too. Brought under the Danzpeople which you can take a look here. So get yourself dancing people!
How To Get A Girl To Swoon? I say it is very possible, for I am a girl after all (no you can’t think otherwise!!!).  ^_^ For the past few sessions of rehearsing at Ismail, there is a scene that requires us to learn how to do some dancing with a partner. Partner in the sense like where you dance with them, jazz like, or ballroom like. We were learning the waltz!! Wooo heeee. Yes I am ecstatic because I’ve always wanted to learn how to do partner dances and even more so ballroom or even latin dances like the salsa, tango. And the one i want to secretly learn is the Paso Doble a very macho and sensual dance. Ooooooohhhh… yes can you tell I’m swooning!! Sure Fire sign my dear boys, just like I was telling “somebody” today since we were on the topic of dance, if you ever ever want to get a girls attention or making her completely smitten over you. You have to know how to play the game. It’s very simple, us girls don’t ask for much, we just want to be loved and pampered till kingdom come (yes you can run now). However another way to just get us all blushing and behaving silly. Is… ask….. us…

to dance!

Ooooh there is nothing better than to here someone of the different gender, asking you to dance. I used to be a dancer and on some level I still very much am a dancer… For me to feel the glide between two people, with just simply body movements is wonderful and terribly romantic. Especially when you do a very slow dance, when it is easy to just look deep into the persons eyes and then … ooooo ooo oo… sigh….

Boys you can snicker, role your eyes and even say meehhhh about this, but it’s true! Dancing is a powerful medium of  message between two people and probably enough to move masses. Don’t knock it! So yeah.. just ask the girl you want to be with or your girlfriend right now to dance. It’ll spark a number of things within her that could ahh well…. just very be good for you :)
Wow lots of numbers on the title. Continuing from the previous post, So You Think You Can Dance Season 2 Malaysia, was the event I had gone to last night with a bunch of friends. I felt really bad that I didn’t manage to bring a banner for Raymond Liew, the person I’m supporting there. But there is another person I’m supporting in the Top 20 , who happens to be Samantha Yee. We used to dance together at Celestar Studio, where we had learn jazz. Fun time that was, and I haven’t seen Samantha since then! So to see her dance her heart out on stage was a really wonderful sight.

Aishah Sinclair

This season the show is hosted by Aisha Sinclair, a well recognised face on TV. The little lass was really sweet and held herself well on stage. Although it felt like her voice was a bit muffled – maybe she’s sick or something, i dunno – She held up to her part as the host of the show. I don’t want to make excuses, it was the first episode, hence cutting them some slack. ^_^

Ramli Ibrahim, Judimar Hernandez and Pat Ibrahim

The judges of the show are the same from the previous season, with Pat Ibrahim, Ramli Ibrahim and Judimar Hernandez. I don’t want to be comparing, but it’s hard not to. In all honesty when you have judges like Simon Cowell and Nigel Lythgoe sitting on the panel or even Piers Morgan. You kinda start wanting to hear some heavy, straight yet truthful constructive criticism. That was a mouthful. Thats all I’m saying. But I’m no judge, i’m just taking it from a spectators point of view, who likes to obviously talk about things and discuss. So here we are in Ruums KL, which is right opposite Shangri La Hotel in the Golden Triangle. And the contestants are

So You Think You Can Dance (Malaysia) Season 2 Top 20

Girls:Farah, Zen, Samantha, Cecilia/CC, VivianJorida, Sim, Jojo, Zef, Sarah Guys: Ray,Hanafi, Black, Hong, Raymond, Belalang, Sly, Chee Wei Billy, Fairul Btw do you know how difficult it is to get pictures of them???? I searched all over and finally found a site that could give me quality pictures of the all the contestants and even some behind the scenes shot. You can view the press conference with the images HERE.

The Top 20

Here’s your top 20 folks. The Show started at 9.30 which means since we were there early we waited for a good hour. The boys got bored and because of that, they started making their own fun by ‘making’ fun of things around them. Sheeeeesh!!

The Boys having fun by making fun

Stressed out Dancers

It’s one thing to see the dancers just performing, but seeing them live and being in utter stress and worry bout being kicked out. It really makes me feel for them. They announced the bottom four which were BIlly, Napi, Vivian and Zen.

The rest of the other dance contestants, were brought to stand where I was standing, now I know why they had that red tape at my foot. it was to give some space for th the dancers who were going to be watching their pals get eliminated.

Very worried and concern Billy

Billy and Napi. One of them are bout to be eliminated. In the end Billy was the one picked to be out for the first episode. Too bad, but Napi really did deserve to stay. Ballroom was not Napi’s forte but at the same time the dance was just not happening for the Waltz he did with his partner. Billy’s Beat it Remix with his partner, was just alright. It was not great and i don’t fault him for that, he’s a good dancer but I think the choreography was not enough to bring out his potential. It’s very sad that he had to go on the first round.

Tearing contestants to hear that they are losing one from the group

When they had announced who were the bottom four after like 20 minutes of votes, which i think is really dumb. Honestly who will vote in 20 minutes. There is not enough time and in fact I couldn’t even hear that the voting process for elimination had already started.

The boys take a moment to appreciate still being in the Top 18

After Billy had been the first to be eliminated, the other boys took a moment and had a group hug amongst themselves.

Me and Samantha

This is Samantha Yee, one of the contestants who also happened to be one of the dancers I danced with at Celestar Studio. She had probably the best bod in the class heheh and she’s still a on going strong dancer. Her dance was choreographed by Manuela Oliviera who I think is a fabulous dancer and choreographer. She has wonderful vision for the dancers and brings out the best in them.

Now so what can I say about SYTYCD Malaysia. Well first of, I’m glad that they are at least having the show here. But on another hand, the standard of dance is … quite well far apart with the ones I’ve been watching on the American version. But hey the one thing that is still a strong point that I like about the show is that it allows those who have the passion to dance, to really express themselves here on this stage.
