Ever since I watched the flash video from the site the Meatrix (which is terribly funny I might add), I have been rather against the whole factory farm issue. Have any of you ever wondered where our meat for sausages, burgers and all other fast food outlets come from? I haven’t either, till I saw the video. Its rather disgusting to see the way food companies grow what we call poultry. I even wonder if the meat that we take in is even safe? What is the likelihood of use getting a terrible disease because of the way the farm animals are breed.

You can find out more about sustainable eating her, at Sustainable Table. It is also tied up together with the green site, Gracelinks. Which in a nutshell

“GRACE promotes community based solutions for the production and consumption of food and energy. Working with research, policy, consumer and grassroots communities, GRACE raises public awareness and advances innovative solutions to create an economically and environmentally viable future, and eliminate practices that are harmful to the environment and public health.”

My problem with this is how are we to know whether our meat is from the organic and traditional farms instead of the factory farms. I thought it would’ve been easy to figure out, because of labels. Sad to say we DON’T have that here when we go to the meat section in the supermarket. Or at least I haven’t seen it yet. Enlighten me anyone if you have seen and if you think there is a good way of maybe differentiating how our meat is produced.

Having said that, to get attention, I thought this was a great way for one activist to shout out a point. Yeap saw it in the papers, a bit gory but the message gets out there. Right click and view image to see it bigger.

Ever since, I embarked on the try to be green journey, I have also looked and considered my diet (mainly cause i’m planning out my meals and what I eat now). Having said that, I thought of going vegetarian. I had actually tried going veg for two weeks a couple of years back… for a completely stupid reason, because Tobey Maguire is one. But i must say in those two weeks, it was quite enriching to be veg for a while. I will also agree that it did make me feel a lot better…. minusing the points when I started to crave for a good juicy steak or burger.

On to what I really wanted to post about, is Miss Alicia Silverstone. Who apparently went vegetarian for quite some time and then the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), approached her and she did a commercial which is suppose to help promote their website goveg.com.. And how exactly does she wish to get our attention?

Why by going nude!

You can also watch the video of the commercial, which I managed to fine off youtube. You gotta love that place.

So while albeit, it’s a rather daring move, but you have to hand it to the girl, for trying. You have to shout really loud at the areas where things need to be heard.

Interesting, that I have been putting in a lot more post on being green lately. But hey, I think its fun and rather interesting to know the ways that others around the globe are trying to spread the cause or at least reduce their carbon footprint.

Anyway, I got this from ecorazzi which led me to other websites from there. Hollywood, people is going green and they are holding a green conference to discuss on environmental issues on how Hollywood can be involved in the spread. Check it out here at Hollywood Goes Green and if you want more articles to read on this you can go to Variety, which has their own archive of Green Hollywood. Or you cna head on to WebbyAward winner WorldChanging.com to take a look at the “How green is Hollywood?” article, which according to a god umber of comments was rather inspiring.

What are they going to discuss? Roughly here is what their agenda looks like at the Hollywood Green conference.

“Topics include:

Why Green is good for the entertainment business

Reducing carbon footprints and understanding credit options

Financing and pitching environmentally themed films

Delivering green messages on cable and television

Incorporating green initiatives in advertising campaigns

Saving fuel and energy efficient vehicles

Evaluating impact of Live Earth concert series and music business

Breakout sessions and workshops offer more in-depth group discussion on several hot topics:

Sustainable Green building design and renovation

Celebrity activism

Green marketing and advertising for film and TV

eco-friendly production

Adopting paperless practices

Workshops by guilds and environmental organizations”

Now having said that how exactly does Hollywood intend to go green? Honestly I’m not too sure, but maybe this gave a bit more light on the matter. Eco-tainment tips for the soul. They had a label called “Shibby” and that was the recyclable product I was referring too.

What I love about this place, is the fact that they are place, which allows young entrepreneurs to have a go and showing their talent and on top of that they support good causes.

But having sad that I did manage to find a few. As to whether they are eco-friendly is entirely different story, but lets take a look at them shall we.

1. Of course The Body Shop will come to mind in this field. And yeah I do like their products, I’m giving the benefit of the doubt that despite the fact that they are multinational company and only wish to make more money, that they are doing

some environmental benefit here. So on top of my list, I love this product by them.

2. Next in line, while i happen to be walking around Lot 10 (and waddya know it’s a green building), I saw Timberland, which happens to also be one of the environmentally friendly brands currently. I absolutely love the marketing they labeled on their glass panels.

Been meaning to set this up for some time. So decided not waste anymore thinking and just get to it.

Here we are folks, the group/site which I hope will be around to help those of us who believe in the green cause, but lack the motivation and inspiration to go forward with it. I created two portals for now, they are temporary. One is on Going on social network = http://Ipledgegreen.goingon.com and another is on Facebook = I Pledge Green Cause

It is a hard choice to make and to want to be environmentally friendly when you have a lot of negative feedback from your peers or even random people just saying to you “Why do you care??” Or even “Who would bother?”. Well guess what there are people who care!

And the reason is simply because, despite this earth not being ours, God created this earth for all of us and its our home. We’ve only got one home if you were to think about it. If this planet were to be destroyed, where do you think our future generation will go? Mars and Venus? Sure…. how many years would it take for them to figure out how to make the atmosphere on those planet conducive enough for us to breathe there.

So….having said that. “I Pledge Green” is born. So come join in, on facebook.

What is it about? It is a just simple group that encourages everyone to pledge at least 1 eco-solution. From there hopefully more pledges will be made by others but yes starting out small first ad realistically first. 1 pledge a person, is enough to change the world slowly. In other words being the example so others can see it too.

This has also been set up as a place, where people can also learn how to be green and share with one another their opinions on how some sort of activism can arise from all this. Especially in Malaysia and the Asian countries. In my personal belief I think Malaysia has to start somewhere, since I am from this country. But it is slow to develop and understand on such serious matters as this unfortunately. So while this beautiful country burns in the heat of an all year round summer, green people have to take up the cause to see that even the small country such as ourselves do not contribute to the already worsening state of the earth.

The hand symbolizes the point of us making a pledge, for the sake of humanity and the future generation.

I’ve said my peace. It’s not an obligation, but I do encourage the rest of us to make the effort. Lets save our home..

Believing that there should be a store out there that while taking care of us petty humans, also chose to take care of the environment (animals included). Starting Body Shop in a humble store in the UK, this activist-entrepreneur believes that “campaigning and good business is also about putting forward solutions, not just opposing destructive practices or human rights abuses.”

And I fully agree with that. One can complain and also put out awarenesses there, but in the end, what we really want are answers to how we can solve the issues we are with. Be they business ones or social ones.

A Pioneer for the green cause, she was an inspiration to many out there, and hopefully more businesses and people like her shall flourish.

I didn’t really like his music then, up until recently. No it wasn’t because of Live Earth, but rather his music started to grow on me. More so I didn’t like the how my friends were going oohss and ahhhss on him when i was in school. Anyway, I am an avid admirer of John Mayer now. For his extremely good guitar skills and all the the to his personality, the way he carries himself and his sincere thoughts. After I heard about the press conference at Live Earth, John Mayer not only got my admiration but also my respect for his honest opinion on how people are going about whether the message of live earth will get out there. Check it out here.
