Great start to the season. English Premiere League of the Barclays Premiere League is back on.

The young team that Alex Fergusan has lined up looks impressive and promising. Already winning the charity shield against Manchester City and now they’ve just won their first game of the season against West Brom. Things look hopeful for the team ^_^

Everything seems to be new. The boys have new haircuts, new players on the pitch and hopefully a new trophy at the end of the season :P

EPL : Wayne Rooney, West Bromwich Albion v Manchester United

I was late in watching the match, but was delighted to get a call stating that Rooney had scored a fantastic goal after 13 minutes into the game.

I was a bit worried at first, since two of our wonderful players in the team have retired. Namely our very experienced and well missed goalkeeper Van Der Sar and one of my favourite players Paul Scholes.

Van Der Sar replaced by David De Gea (20). Differences, he doesn’t have the huge presence that Van Der Sar had. VDS filled up the goal and  of course he had years of experience. However i do have faith in De Gea, he’s still young and has a lot more room for improvement. Watching his performance against West Brom, you can see the Spanish kid is agile, quick in the reflexes and great at shot stopping. Sure he made a mistake and you can’t lame the young chap, who’s under massive pressure to perform as he takes on the shoes of a goalkeeper that Fergusan took 6 years to find after Peter Schmeichel quit in 1999. Whatever it is, i’m sure De Gea is going to up his skills!

Paul Scholes, one of the more aggressive players in MU, is no longer part of the team. To fill his place, now we’ve got Ashley Young and Phil Jones (19). Ashley Young helped in creating the winning the goal against West Brom after the worrisome equalizer mid game – causing Steven Reid to score an on goal. Young is a name that needs no introduction, as you one would already know him from the England squad and Aston Villa. Young has good pace, dribbling skills and great at crosses. In fact he made the first goal possible for Rooney in this match.

Young strike seals three points for Red Devils
Phil Jones, is young fast, powerful and versatile – and is already getting some good words from his teammate. Rooney Quotes: “”Phil Jones is a good young English player. One of the toughest defenders I played against last season. Can play midfield too,” Wayne Rooney ahead of Jones’ transfer in June 2011.
Phil Jones of Manchester United

Basically i’m just going to write saying that i’m optimistic about the new squad for this season. I just hope the boys maintain this form all the way. Probably fix up a bit on the defense that still seems a bit all over the place and to open for my liking.

I really like this line for the commentary on soccernet. “Ashley Young gets the credit and United do what Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea couldn’t – win on the opening day.” ^_^

**Sadly some piece of news, Rio Ferdinand is out for 6 weeks :( great…

Woot I’ve just done the first recording of the Bola@Mamak! The brand new show I’m hosting, will be on every Wednesday at 9pm on Channel 817. Phew… can i please point out this is my first time hosting not just any show but a sports show. Can you imagine the pressure >.< But hey as my director from Mocap pointed out. Its my two loves – being on screen and talking about football. Hehe. On a side note I am ecstatic to say I’m learning so much. It’s truly making me like the game even more. Plus I just love the fact of the different people i’m meeting all the time each week. I will say its not easy to shoot at a mamak.. not your typical shooting spot..right?? o.0 But you know what we’re playing different with this show and I’m still ecstatic to be part of the team… weeeehooooo. I know I know i’m on a high right now. But it’s all in good fun ^_~ We shot the show at a quaint lil 24 hour mamak down in Putrajaya. I have to say thank you to the waiters there who were to patient with us. First shoot or rehearsal for any show is bound to have a certain amount of chaos to it. No chaos means everything gets spoon fed and possible to take it for granted. Chaos means you get to learn how to make thing better, more systematic, more fun. Besides where is the challenge without chaos! All the same it was a good first shoot. bola@mamakep115 The mamak stall that we were shooting  at. bola@mamakep1_01 The first day of rehearsal. Set up time for shoot. bola@mamakep1_02 It looks like i’m ready for an exam! bola@mamakep1_04 Anand the Orangeman! And my footy wingman hahaha. I had no idea what the stuff meant, although i asked an tried to understand. Beyond my comprehension. bola@mamakep120 Jason is getting a shot of the entire crew.. Jas!! be careful of the tandoori chicken behind.. bola@mamakep1_06 Here we are at the real set and day for recording. Nick is ordering people what to do.. “I order you all.. to sit! Good people” :P bola@mamakep1_07 As you can see i’m still hard at work studying on what i’m going to be discussing with my guests ^_^ bola@mamakep1_08 Me and Emilia! One girl i can’t be without hehe bola@mamakep1_09 During the shoot of Bola@Mamak. bola@mamakep1_10 Bojan and Me, he’s super tall!!! I feel like a tiny one. I hadn’t realised the guys from the mamak stall were also looking at the camera! Say Cheese! bola@mamakep1_11 And of course how can i not have a pic without the big boss :) Mr Jason Dasey!!!! I love this guy… and who is brighter and more eye catching.. go on tell me.. who??? He’s out on the search to find the CRAZIEST FOOTBALL fan out there. And when i say crazy you have to be a real fanatic. So if you think you are crazy enough. I’ll let you know how to contact the OrangeMan to visit you. Who knows if your story is compelling enough to make it into the whacko list, we’ll come visit you and have you on National TV! bola@mamakep1_14Ahh Annie! The lovely one who did my make up and flowing fishtail braid. Thanks my dear!!! bola@mamakep119 All this right here on Bola@Mamak will be repeated again every Wednesday at 9pm on Astro Channel 817. This year, this World Cup, has got to be my most memorable one yet. I can finally get back to proper sleeping “disorders” haha. It all started with just a simple audition and a meet up. Then next thing you know there I am giving match predictions for the most highly anticipated and watched sport of all time. Now i just have to wait for 3 years or rather 1414 days till the next World Cup in Brazil.. hehe. The experience has been amazing. The support, encouragement, feedback and people have been wonderful at Astro. The team – if i could make a hand gesture like how the Italians do when they find the food just magnifique -  is just “mwuah”. Oh oh and it makes even cooler that you get to meet people such as the ever cool Abbas Saad (ex Australia International player) and of course Lee Sharpe (ex Manchester United winger and England player) whoooooaaaa. So let’s just show some shots on my last day of predicting. Of course that was the nail biting end Spain vs Holland. Both teams never won the World Cup before. So that night history was made. So I’m really honored that I got to be a part of World Cup history. In my own way.. let me just bask in it for a minute and think how cool it is hehe :P Moving on to pictures of from the Third Place match and the World Cup Final

Yesterday i was walking around in the mall, i decided to pop into a Nike store. As usual they would have really cool ads running on their tv screen. I personally enjoyed watching the ad “V is for Victory” , the powder ad. Sure this was released sometime back in Jan, but I still think it’s worth mentioning. Below is the video of the actual ad campaign followed by the behind the scenes and making of the video.

As much as it’s called www.footballshirtculture.com but Nike had other favourite sportsmen wearing the V on their chests.

The first photoshoot session has Nike’s favourite ambassadors Sergio Ramos, Cesc Fabregas, Didier Drogba, Joe Cole, and Andrei Arshavin wearing the new line of Nike Chevron Eugene jackets.

I love the effect you get from the powder and them placing the footballers in a dark room with a slow shutter speed. I would like to try it one day hehe. Here are some still shots of how the photoshoot was done with powder being thrown on to their hard core bods :)

Lets not get any of that into their noses now.

The next you have them just in their boxers or shorts, with an emblazed V on their bare skin.

Out of all the shots.. and as much as i DISLIKE Drogba – even if he is a fantastic football player – I have to admit that i do like his photo. It’s very umm.. manly? For lack of a better word. Images take from Dazeddigital.

Last night I went to a friends house to watch the Manchester United Match versus Aston Villa. Ever since Man United played against Liverpool at Old Trafford a couple of weeks ago, the team has been maybe having a very hard time. With a terrible and painful lost to Liverpool at 1-4, the team lost the following match as well to Fulham.

Oh the pain of hearing all sorts of slanders from the other teams. Then last night came. With heavy hearts, we watched the match and hoped for worse. Originally after the first goal by Christiano Ronaldo, our spirits started to soar.. but once Aston scored back and not just once but twice. We all started saying, ok let’s make it 1-3, meaning we were expecting Aston to score another goal. Then came the 80 minute and Ronaldo made it 2-2. Ohhhhh that got our hearts pumping and causing all sorts of weird palpitations to our blood stream.

We figured that at least it would be a draw. That was until a little onion head kid wearing the jersey 41 appeared.

macheda

We all started wondering why Fergie would put this new kid in this game, which was so crucial, with our defence completely shattered and the main strikers not in the game… What was Fergie thinking???? But ok ok calm calm.. you should always trust Fergie’s call.

It was down to the stoppage time and it was 5 minutes.. Oh thank God it was five minutes. Both teams were fighting for the last goal. This was it. It’s a draw or win. What would you push for? Ryan Giggs assisted the ball and all of a sudden this onion haired kid came out of nowhere and he SCORED A GOAL!!!!!! it was a 3-2… OMGOSHHHHHHH Yesss!!!!!!!!

Just watch the video. Just WATCH this little wonder kid.

And I will never make fun of his hair or his name again.

His name is Federico ‘Kiko’ Macheda. And don’t knock him, like we did. We were all just talking of how for all we know he could be a Santiago Munez like from the movie “Goal”. Never did we think, he would actually BE  a Santiago Munez and score during the stoppage time, during his debut and during a crucial turn around for the team. Like OH MY GOSH!!!! It was just like in the movie. Read more about the real version of Santiago Munez : Federico ‘Kiko’ Macheda at the ManunitedYouth blog.

To say a big thank you to this kid who saved us all, I want to share a video :P

I found this video.. ok fine… Mister G found this video. And while the words are not exactly the nicest thing ever but…it’s funny…. Now I just found it.. so don’t shoot me. Shoot the person who created it. This song requires a lot of censoring :P

I’m not saying you have to sing to it.. but here are the lyrics for you Man United fans out there.
