I really wish that I could do this everyday, where there are either rehearsals or just shows or auditions i could go to. It’s terribly fun but if only it will bring in the bread and butter here…sigh.

Warning this post is going to be pic heavy and it will show a shorter version of the Ismail journey..

Anyway I want to say I’ve been really enjoying the Ismail rehearsals that have been going on. The musical is set to open NEXT THURSDAY people on the 7th of August at 8.30pm. This will run for a whole month everyday except for Monday.. phew tiring as it maybe but I’m really looking forward to it. We are now at the touch up sessions of Ismail. We’ve already seen the set, sang with the orchestra and been mic-up to test our levels individually.

Yeah yeah I know I sound so jakun.. but this is my first time being in a musical… even if I am just an ensemble.. I’m relishing every bit of it.

Here are some the pictures to entertain you guys.

I just got back from KLPAC, from another performance. Tonight was the opening night performance for ‘Three.’ A story told purely through dance and background music about people you meet in heaven. Can you take a guess that it is inspired from the famous book by Mitch Albom’s “Five People You Meet In Heaven? This is the story that resulted from it, directed by Helena Foo.

Join in on their Facebook ‘Three.’ or you can read about it from the Editors Recommendation at Kakiseni.

The plays cast members were Lorna Hoong (met her at the Uncut, Untitled, Paperhouse Audition), Wong Wai Hoong (I’ve met long ago during the aerobic days and haven’t seen him in ages), Nicole-Ann Thomas, Payal Vashist (who’s from my acting class at KLPAC – Babes so proud of you1) and Soni Deol.

The story is about a girl who finds her self in the afterlife. In heaven she meets her guardian angel, and three other people that mattered most in her life. As she goes through these moments, she learns to accept the way she lived her life.

The performance began with a very foggy and dimly lit stage, with nothing but a doorway to what looked like the entrance to a plane. All the characters are already in position on the dark stage with the main character, the girl (Lorna) on the floor in a distorted position. Before anything begins, we find that she has died in the aircraft and a slideshow presentation is shown on the floor, which represented the girls life, flashing before our eyes.

The slideshow ends and the play begins. The music was played by a live band – I’ll talk about the music later. You see the girl, with what appears to be with broken limbs struggling off the floor and her Guardian Angel (Wong) helps her get on to her feet.

As she gets on her feet, the mood changes and she meets with Lust, Temptation and Seduction all represented by Payal. LTS toys around with the girl and as the girl’s Guardian tries to help her, he too is then drawn in to the swirl of seduction. The girl and her Guardian are pulled by invisible strings by LTS. It is only when the girl comes to her senses she is able to fight of LTS and knock sense back in to her Guardian who is disappointed that he has let her down.

The girl then meets her mother, whom she lost to breast cancer when she was younger. It was a very touching and tender moment. The mother (Nicole) mimed most of her actions which I thought was beautifully done, with simple actions such as the scooping up of coffee or something, hanging the clothes and tenderly touching the girls features.

The last person the girl meets is her lover. Another female who once took her breath away but stole her heart away in the end. In other words something bad must’ve transpired between the two ‘lovers’. The show starts to end with the girl, finally realising that her relationship with her girlfriend was really not meant to be and was wrong to begin with. She then starts to take control and does a frustrated dance which flows into her solo of acceptance.

Now on to the music. The music was played by a live band consisting of Nick Davis, Julio Singho, Tony Selvaraj and Andrew Wong. All amazing and talented. The music was excellent and I wouldn’t mind listening to just the score itself. I hope that they actually make it into an album for I would pay to listen to it again.

The choreography done by Miss Kerry Ann Khoo was simple and suited to the abilities of the performers who aren’t all professional dancers. The body movements of Lorna in my personal opinion were brilliant at the beginning. Out of all the dances my favourite has to be the intro of the girl and her Guardian Angel. The relationship between the two characters was in a lovely form of dance and control. For those who missed it. You can at least catch a glimpse of what it’s like behind the scenes and some of the music.

I highly recommend anyone out there who loves the arts to go see this show. A simple yet touching piece. Tickets are still available at KLPAC. So just go on here.

Well I should give some update on this.

Last two weeks were pretty fun, was involved in two independent films shoot. Finally completed the one made for the BMW shorties with the Theme H20 by Wan Azhar. Why the heck it is water, please don’t ask me. The submission date was just last Friday, the 21st of March. Whoever wins the shorties will get RM75K to make another movie…. Honestly I really don’t think that ie remotely enough to make a film. But it depends how creative you are, to make the best of what little resources one has.

Hope that film makes it somewhere but boy was the shooting process for the last day a real torture. The scene we had to do was in Masjid Negara and that area is like some jungle, so I got like 15 mosquitoe bites all over my legs!!!!!! And they weren’t tiny bites, when I get biten they become huge!!! So yeah the things I do for the sake of getting experiences. But that’s done and over with yay!

And also managed to do one shoot with my friend Juliane Block who was in my Practical Aesthetics class. Juliane is from Germany and is trying her hand at film making, check out her production house site. She recently showed one of her works Unsecured Loan at KLPAC Open Day. I’m not entirely sure on what the synopsis is but it is about loan sharks and the mafia. I found the cinematography impressive and when i saw the trailer I was pretty keen on watching it… sadly I haven’t yet though. You can check it out here.

Anyways the one and the rest of the class helped her in shooting was her new short film “Emperor”. I had to act as a Hawker lady or more so a waitress at a chinese restaurant. It was a very short scene but i think it was really funny! First of all because I’m a complete banana, and problem with that was I had top say my very short short line in Cantonese.

All i had to say was “Please go, please go” in Cantonese… which on the first few runs sounded very odd. Hahaha. :hehe: But after few rounds of rehearsal I managed to get it. It didn’t help though that my mafia guy i was suppose to serve was laughing and whenever i said it :punch: Don’t laugh on the set!!!

Me and the make up artist, Eunice, who also happens to be my junior in Monash.

Here we have Victor who plays the Cop Ravi and Kit who plays Gabriel the Mafia dude.

Our Director Juliane Block (she’s wearing the jacket) and Asst Director Crystal hard at work, preparing some stuff.. or was it after…the shoot??

Both occasions were pretty fun and glad that I got to meet some new people and catch up with some old friends. ^_^

As the title suggests, the spirit of music is celebrated in this concert, which will feature 20 original compositions – 10 instrumental and 10 vocal pieces.

Although mainly jazz-influenced, the songs will also be infused with elements of traditional music, especially evident in the instrumental solo pieces. There will also be four vocalists who will sing mainly in Chinese.

Various genres of music will be covered in this concert, including slow jazz, swing, R&B, bebop and loads more, promising a refreshing change for those looking for something more than commercial Chinese pop music!

But let me share this beautiful dance between her and Dominic. Oh my gooooowwwsshhh i love the chemistry between these two dancers. And that is the kind of dance I would love to have on day. Not only was the music excellent but so was the routine and the dancers. Sabra and Dominic, from So You Think You Can Dance, you both told a beautiful love story, I thought it was a music video shown live!!! Brialliant job! So Thoroughly romantic.
