***My apologies on the previous post, i had accidently let my draft get published before i was even finished with it :S. Here is the tutorial on how to make your Twitter Background Clickable.***

I was always more of a Plurk or Facebook person. I had my karma going up and everything. After a while i decided to just switch to twitter and after seeing a number of people with their own twitter background. I decided to make my own. However i wanted to make it even more interesting…

By making my background clickable.. with links!

Why make your twitter background even with clickable links in the first place? Well it’s a lot cooler than having your future/current followers move their mouse all the way to the right column of the page (which they may miss sometimes) or typing your link in the address bar, or even searching for you.

So i say make your twitter background clickable with actual links that work!

Is that possible? Yes it is. Let me show you how you can make yourself even more interactive with your twitter followers by making your twitter background clickable!

Yeap you can put in links and have people click on your background! And no i’m not talking about the profile section. This will be literally your background. Just follow the steps.

Step 1

Create your Twitter Background. You can have some ideas on how to create your own Twitter Background here on my post “Custom Twitter Background”

 aroniltwitter

I spent a while on this. I still feel something is a miss but i’ll figure it one day.

Step 2

Now head on to your Twitter Settings>Change Background image.

Step 3

Once your new background image is in place, head on to Clickablenow.com.

image

Step 4

Just follow the steps :) But ok as a heads up, you will need to install a script that will first allow your browser to be clickable. Please note that not everyone knows about this feature so it’s a good thing to get people aware. This script is supported on the following browsers:

I’m using Google Chrome so i downloaded the script/ extension for my Chrome browser.If you like go ahead and download Chrome first.

image

Then install the Clicakblenow Extension here.

image

Step 5

Once done, sign in with the button on the right hand column. They will ask you whether you would like to allow the application to access your twitter account. Just allow.

image

You will then come to this page and that’s where the fun starts :)

Here just add links to where you want. The new link button will look like the one shown on the image below. Showing a faded white box with two words in them “Link | Remove”.  Key in the link url of where it is you want your followers to go too. Don’t worry about them moving on to a new page, for each link will open up on a new tab.

Save your ‘work’ and go test out your twitter page. :)

image

Check it out roll your mouse on your twitter background and you’ll notice that the areas with a link has a scrollover button feature. For mine I’ve shaded it to pink when you have your mouse over it.

Now i’m not sure for some of you, but when i first tried out clickablenow, it will state at the left corner of the page that the twitter background is clickable. Just a small “clickable” will be there. However that doesn’t appear anymore. All the same don’t worry as long as you can see that your links are shaded with the color you’ve chosen, you’ll know it’s working. :)

Things to keep in mind.

  1. If you have just loaded a new twitter background, click the “refresh” button if not it’s going to end up showing you the old twitter background.
  2. SAVE! always save your new added links.
  3. Also note that it’ll be good if you save the new twitter background which will have a name like this “yourtwitterbackground_.jpg”.
    Load that jpg into your twitter background. I just do it as an extra precaution to make things work :P
  4. If you want to add the Social Media Icons, please be warned that it can be a bit of hassle. This is because when you want adjust your icons, it may not be very friendly. You’ll have control of the icon but it’ll look like your mouse is at the top of the page but the icon is somewhere at the bottom. :S

    Was a prob for me and even more so if you don’t have steady hands. My suggestion, you want the icons, just add them on photoshop :)

Below are some examples of how the clickable twitter backgrounds will work.

Or even Giden’s twitter page which i’ve designed and made clickable first before mine. You can read about his post too on making the twitter background clickable.

So go ahead and make your background Clickable! Show me and i’ll go click on it hehe.

I have at least three hard disks to manage on my table. And sometimes when i unplug one and plug in another one the drive letters for the hard disks gets a bit mixed up or swapped for another drive letter. This messes up files when i open them especially if i was editing something and the program can’t read it from the destination it was edited from. Even more annoying is when my songs can’t be located on Itunes. >.< So for those of you who don’t want that headache. Here i’m going to show how to reassign your letters. By the way I’m doing this on Windows Vista. Step 1. Go to your start Icon and head on to Computer > Manage reassigndriveletter Step 2 Once you have the Computer Management Window up. Click on Storage> Disk Management. Let it load. reassigndriveletter2 Step 3 You will then see all your hard disk volumes and their stats. reassigndriveletter3 Step 4 Right click on the Disk you want to change the letter for. reassigndriveletter4 Step 5 Select the letter u want. Click Ok. And if there is another pop up window just click ok. They will state something that this will affect your certain applications or something like that. It’s fine, just click ok. :)

I know this is easy peasy stuff for some, but some may not know on how to do it. I forget how to do it myself too sometimes. Hope it does lessen someone’s headache. :)

Have I ever mentioned how much I enjoy Google? Well if i have I’m saying it again. Google just has all sorts of stuff that makes the net all the more worthwhile to browse and be inspired/ motivated when you find new stuff. Google Books is one of my recently favourite places to visit. Especially when I want or need to read up on something. The collection of Google Books is not too shabby either. With a wide list you can find almost anything from gardening, teaching to even medical stuff.  I was browsing for some of the techniques that we were taught at the Astro-Nida course and I came across two very helpful books. Now while I don’t mind reading it online, it would be great to have an actual copy, selecting only certain parts that I want to read.  Hence that got me on a search of how to download a Google Book. Very simple folks. Just follow these steps or go to the actual link here on book.huiho.com
  1. First of all you need Firefox
  2. Then install these following plugins: Greasemonkey and [ Userscript ] Google Book Downloader
  3. Then one last plugin called FlashGot
  4. Got all that down? Now just head on to any books.google.com url and you’ll see a new download button popping up at the sidebar on the right.
  5. Once you click download the images of each page will be converted into an easy file for you. Just highlight the ones you want and then right click and select FlashGot Selection
  6. But just a note, don’t download everything at one go, cause this may cause your IP to get banned.
Enjoy reading your new found book. :)
I had a huge huge headache the last time when I didn’t have widgets on my blog. So I’m revisiting this tutorial again. Basically what you have is a theme which is not widget ready.. ugh, even the mention of that sickens me. What I’m going to share is how to create a widget for your sidebar on your non-widget ready theme.First of all, please go to this site. This is the real guru for widgetizing a theme What we would like is to have this page on wordpress.

Wordpress Widgets

 and not THIS!

Wordpress Theme No Sidebars

When you find your sidebar.php.. it will have code that looks something like this – base on widget sidebar of Kubrick the classic wordpress theme.
<div id=”sidebar”> <li id=”about”> <h2>About</h2> <p>This is my blog.</p> </li> <li id=”links”> <h2>Links</h2> <ul> <li><a href=”http://example.com”>Example</a></li> </ul> </li> </ul>
Looks quite terrifying yes? No worries, then from here what you do is you just add these two lines into it.
<ul id=”sidebar”>  <?php if ( function_exists(‘dynamic_sidebar’) && dynamic_sidebar() ) : else : ?> <li id=”about”> <h2>About</h2> <p>This is my blog.</p> </li> <li id=”links”> <h2>Links</h2> <ul> <li><a href=”http://example.com”>Example</a></li> </ul> </li> <?php endif; ?> </ul>
That’s it! oh WAIT  no not yet! You have to create a functions.php file for it if your theme doesn’t already have one. Don’t fret, just open up either dreamweaver or even a note pad and save the file as  functions.php and this is what you have to type in it
<?php if ( function_exists(‘register_sidebar’) ) register_sidebar(); ?>
If you need more than one sidebar no probs just key this in.
 <?php if ( function_exists(‘register_sidebars‘) ) register_sidebars(n); ?> **(n) n refers to the number of widget sidebars you want to register.
If you look at the new wordpress 2 themes and above they would have a function page that looks like so
<?php if ( function_exists(‘register_sidebar’) ) register_sidebar(array( ‘before_widget’ => ‘<li id=”%1$s” class=”widget %2$s”>’, ‘after_widget’ => ‘</li>’, ‘before_title’ => ‘<h2 class=”sidebartitle”>’, ‘after_title’ => ‘</h2>’, )); ?>
HAHHH???? what the heck where did that code come from? I had another headache because, great now where am i going to add this section  register_sidebars(n) in? Well it was quite simple it seems, you just put the number here
<?php if ( function_exists(‘register_sidebars‘) ) register_sidebars(n,array( ‘before_widget’ => ‘<li id=”%1$s” class=”widget %2$s”>’, ‘after_widget’ => ‘</li>’, ‘before_title’ => ‘<h2 class=”sidebartitle”>’, ‘after_title’ => ‘</h2>’, )); ?>
So yeah, that was my widget headache solution. Hope this helps out anyone out there.
