Guess who’s Birthday is today!! Today when i woke up, I was amused to see Gmail had changed their logo again. But this time I saw a cake with a number 5 candle on top of it. Hehe. April the 3rd happens to be Gmail’s birthday. It’s been 5 years since the giant Google shared to the world what was suppose to be an internal application, became a huge resourceful app that is now used by millions all over the world. I remember my first time when I heard about Gmail. I was pretty comfortable using my hotmail account. Then I found out that there was a new email client that provided 1 gb worth of email space. Ooo I had to check this out and get my own account. After much pestering my friend into giving me an invite. I finally got one. And I’ve been using Gmail ever since! captured_Image.png[4]So here’s wishing a Happy Birthday to Gmail. Who has made my email life so much easier and faster! You can read their post on Gmail Has Turned 5. But if you want a history recap. Read their days of of how it all started on their Gmail Press Release 2004.
Do you people ever remember the TV series “The Wonder Years”? It was very 70s to 80s.. which was also during the days when we would watch those movies that have the jocks and the girls would have relaly skinny waists, where ridiculous stockings and they would dance to rock and roll music. Not too mention the big poufy hair…Ah yes think “Hairspray”!! Big, bold and beautiful (yeah right)  hair in those days. Anyway my friend Fang, had shown me her latest profile picture which I have to say is rather cool. It was a compilation of yearbook pictures from the 1950s all the way i think to 1980s. I was thinking whoaaa, that is some cool photoshoping. Then I noticed that some of my other friends had the same kind of pic – the yearbook pic- as their profile. That was when I realised that what was at the bottom of each pic was this address.  www.yearbookyourself.com  Ceehhhhhh cheaters hahah.  So I gave the site a try myself.

First ya go in and then you select your gender. Then get a pic of yourself and load it up.

Pick a mall. Ultimately this is a gun piece of marketing for malls. And to show us the bunch of brands that are really very old and have been around for many years.. which you will notice in the next picture.

I personally like this pic!!! This is me in the year 1978. I think i could actually look good with a fro.. oooh I’ve been meaning to try that hairstyle out for ages! If you look on the right side of the book, there are three brans. Levis, Lucky Brand Jeans and Express. I’m guessing these are just some of the brands you can find in a mall. At the bottom, you can see the year dates. Click on them and you will get a different image for that year. It start fomr 1950 to the year 2000.

So lets see what I look like down the years. I didn’t do every single one cause I just look terrible. So the images below are the not so bad ones.

Hahahaa that was a fun one.

I just recently signed up to Plurk.. like 7 hours ago in the whee morning. Hence you are now looking at my instant blogging widget on the right hand side. ^_^ I’m quite liking it actually. the interface is really friendly and cool to play around with. Heavily ajax and slides around with ease when you want to see the timeline of who said what. It’s like a huge fish tank in some ways with tons of people just randomly typing out their thoughts, what they are doing… such fun :)

plurk Plurk is smart in the sense in order to make you use Plurk even more, is by giving you the motivation to want to level up. They gage it by using ‘karma’. What do i mean by karma point? Hahaha it’s almost like a game but a game where you get more points the more you use the product. It’s pretty much the same system like Intense Debate. The more you reply back to people, use plurk for whatever means, your karma stats will go up.

plurk-karma

How can you increase your karma?

  • Updating your profile (picture, location, birth day etc.) will gain you more karma
  • Quality plurking each day
  • Responses from other plurkers will gain you karma.
  • Inviting your real friends will boost your karma
Interesting Neh? Plurk is a lot more interesting than twitter in a couple of ways, other than the interface. I personally like how you get to reply back to your friends in PLurk.

Plurk allows users to add emoticons to their one line sentences.

See all the cute emoticons? heheeh MSN ain't the only one with all the fun. But I need to increase my karma to get them.

So give it a try out :) and join me hehe
Tony was the person who mentioned to me about getting the latest Real Player a while back and ever since then I have been happily downloading a number of youtube videos that I would like to keep. However the problem with downloading them is that they are saved as FLV format, which is usually only playable with either VLC player or with Real Player itself. So say i need to edit something, or i want to convert it into a different format so that it can be watched across all computers. The most well used video format I would think is safest to go with is either AVI or WMV. Before on my old desktop i did have a converter to convert the files from FLV -> AVI. But I don’t have the program anymore, so best bet is to find stuff online. Here is my list of the available Online Video Converters out there. These are just the ones i prefer and find reliable.
  1. Vixy.net Vixy was the first one i started using and it has served me well. I’m happy to also say that it has finally come out with it’s latest desktop version converter.

  2. Media Converter Media converter is another one which i enjoy using, mostly because it is so clean in its look and you can also customise how your end video product will be.

  3. Zamzar I experimented with Zamzar last year and it’s not too bad but not a complete fav of mine because it was just a bit slow. It also allows you to convert video files from your pc online and then download it once it’s done.

  4. Flv To I haven’t tried this one out yet, but it looks promising

    Flv to

  5. Catch Video Catch video’s layout is very very friendly showing all the type of conversions available straight on the homepage. They seem to be doing a tie up with the social platform Moli at the moment too. Don’t know how that is working out.

    Catch Video

  6. Mux.am Mux ia another one that is easy to use. Similar to Zamzar, it also gives you the option to convert files form either your pc or straight off from the web. You can even send videos to your phone. Mux also looks to be another video community.

There you have it my happy list of video converters. Tell me if you see an even better one out there. ^_^
